I would have loved to have attended the picnic. I attended a conference this week - Thurs and Friday. Were any of you there? I think what you are doing is great. I would love to have a monthly get to gether to support each other. I found that the parents that attended the conference were concerned about the following:
1. Is my child getting the best education?
2. What are my rights as a parent in the IEP process?
3. Are the Paraeducators qualified to help my child?
4. How do we handle people and their rude comments or ignorant remarks regarding my child?
5. How can we cope with our feelings when we are in a gathering and see others the same age as my child doing numerous activities that my child cannot?
6. Are we treating our other children who have no disabilities -better or do we not give them enough attention? How can we be fair parents?
I would love to have a monthly meeting where we can all get together and discuss these issues.
